Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Bentley's custom coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed an exclusive key case to mark the centennial of the company. Made from Dark Stained Burr Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a flying "B" paperweight, a set of keys and a brochure that features never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre images.

It's a great present to greet a new owner of their lavish vehicle.

Aesthetics

Bentley is a brand which takes its aesthetics seriously. This is evident in the precise placement of its quilting, the use of leather derived from products of cattle as well as the sustainable management of forests, and the unique patterns of its levers. A car like the Continental GT W12 beckons as you drive by and showcases its stunning sculptural design and power with carefully selected lighting.

The Continental GT is the most sophisticated open-top Bentley ever created. Its rear tonneau for example, showcased the biggest piece of book-matched, dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to a production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

Bentley is the most sought-after brand in the automotive industry in the world due to its unique design and craftsmanship. The company continues pushing boundaries with the latest technologies and craftsmanship. This includes the introduction of an electronic tilt-opening rear sunroof as well as a hand-crafted Apple iPad docking station.

Bentley celebrated its 100th anniversary this year, 100 years after it was established. The marque, which is owned by Volkswagen independently following years of tense relations with BMW and Volkswagen, has planned a range of special launches and events to celebrate the occasion. The marque planned a number special events and launches to commemorate the milestone event before pandemic planning became a priority.

Design

Bentley is famous for its lavish and extravagant automobiles however, even the keys are made to stand out. The Bentayga key is crafted from sterling silver and has a large 'B' logo that let everyone know that you're a Bentley. The key is also embossed with the dates 1919 and 2019 to mark the company’s centenary.

The Mulsanne was redesigned and developed by Bentley Mulliner to become the ultimate Grand Touring car. The rear seats were designed to offer passengers unmatched comfort and privacy. They were inspired by the luxury private aircraft. A customized heating, air conditioning, and ventilation system has been designed to ensure that every passenger has the ideal climate control setting.

The Mulsanne comes with a twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine that produces 560bhp as well as 479lb-ft torque. This powerhouse is complemented by a revolutionary suspension system that provides Bentley's famously quiet ride.

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a specific specification that is called the Centenary Specification for cars manufactured in 2019. This includes contrast stitching and cross-stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings are embroidered with Centenary Gold on the headrests and seats as well as other areas of the car. This adds to the celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a bespoke Bentley keycase to complete the Bentley experience.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne key has a button that opens the trunk and another which starts the car. The key also has a switch for turning on the parking brake. There is a knob that can fold and unfold the mirrors when parked in tight areas. This feature helps you get in and out of your car.

The key is constructed from vegetable tanned leather. It takes over two days to make each one. It is cut by hand shape, sewn, sealed and polished to give an excellent finish. It is compact and strong and will fit the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar with the Volkswagen Phaeton's big car key, but it feels more substantial and premium.

It also has Secure-A-Key that helps to prevent keyless entry theft. The device is inserted into the remote control fob and disables it if the key is not used for a few minutes. It stops thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices which can be used to open and start the car.

Bentley's unique design reflects the company's values that include fine craftsmanship engineering expertise and cutting-edge technology. Its headquarters in Crewe are home to more than 4000 employees responsible for the development, design and production of Bentley vehicles. They employ the skills passed through generations and apply them to cutting-edge automotive technology. This is British manufacturing at its best.

Personalisation

Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to create their own car. Customers sit at a set of images, referred to "mood stations" and choose a selection of photos ranging from scenic vistas to sporting events - that are inspiring to them to design their own. Every time a choice is made the pattern that emerges is the model colors, style and color preferences for the custom Bentley.

The resulting configuration is then loaded onto individual R.F.I.D.-enabled key cards, which are presented to the guests in a hand-crafted key case. Keys can also be fitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps that illuminate the door's opening pathway with the owner's name and/or emblem when they arrive at the vehicle.

Bentley estimates that it takes around 500 man-hours in order to create and put together the typical Mulsanne. One of the main reasons for that lengthy effort is a deliberate refusal to embrace modern tech. The Crewe factory workers don't make use of a machine to create perfectly-matched leather seats. Instead they do it by hand. Drivers must park their vehicles manually, instead of using sensors built-in to direct them to perpendicular and parallel spots.

Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization abilities with an exclusive Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays homage to founder William Osler Bentley.  bentley key price .O.
